6th Annual Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Symposium

6th Annual Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Symposium In-Person

The Office of Faculty Enhancement is pleased to announce its 6th Annual Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Symposium. The Symposium will be held on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2019 in the Delaney Student Ballrooms (58W/3703A). The SoTL Symposium will be held in conjunction with the 2019 Research Week (April 1st-5th), highlighting faculty and student research and scholarship at UNF.

The theme for this year’s SoTL Symposium is “Gateways.” Students often struggle with foundational courses, especially those in the first year, including basic math intensive courses, introductory STEM courses, and writing courses. Students’ early failure in these courses can hinder their academic progress in their major. Faculty teaching first-year and prerequisite courses are faced with meeting the needs of students, many who are underprepared in basic skills as well as meeting the demands of a college-level experience and curriculum requirements for students progressing to higher-order learning. This year’s  SoTL Symposium highlights research-based practices related to gateway and introductory courses and invites faculty to present their ideas, best practices, and evidence on what supports student learning in these gateway courses.
